Natural History Institute: ROADSIDE CACTI TOUR
Roadside Cacti Tour, a field excursion with Dr. Marc Baker
Saturday, March 16th, 8am-5pm
Join local botanist and cacti expert Dr. Marc Baker on a roadside cacti tour, identifying everything from cholla to barrel cactus. This field excursion will take us to neighboring desert communities near Congress, displaying the fascinating convergence of the Sonoran and Mojave deserts. We will learn how to identify various species of cacti, agaves, and yuccas out in the field, including the Echinocereus yavapaiensis, a hedgehog cactus described by Dr. Baker himself. This easy-going day tour is perfect for those looking to expand their botany repertoire!
The full-day van tour will include multiple stops with a bit of light hiking to examine the cacti up close. We will depart from Prescott, AZ at the Natural History Institute at 8:00 am and return by 5:00 pm.
Cost of the excursion is $75 (van transportation included.)
