National Park Service: Art in the Park – Saguaro Studies and Sketches
The saguaro cactus forests of the Rincon Mountain foothills have been monitored for over 80 years — one of the longest scientific studies of plants in all the National Parks.
Today citizen scientists play a vital role in adding to our understanding of this iconic American cactus.
This event will feature:
• An introduction from a park biologist chronicling the past and mapping the future of Saguaro National Park’s namesake
• Instruction in pen-and-ink drawing techniques (materials provided)
• A chance to sketch your own artistic impression of the saguaro, world-famous symbol of The West.
Programs will be offered throughout the day at the visitor center:
