Museum of Northern Arizona: Science Day & Open House

Spend the day at the Museum during this FREE Science Day in conjunction with the Flagstaff Festival of Science. Admission is free all day long.

Join MNA botanists Kirstin Phillips and Jan Busco as they compare their own localized plant knowledge to the latest plant identification phone apps that use artificial intelligence. Bring a flowering native plant sample for the botanists to identify and compare to the results of AI phone apps. NAU Genetics Core Facilities Manager Jill Hager Cocking will demonstrate the latest portable and quick DNA technology available to identify species. (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)

Also enjoy activity tables in the Jaime Major Golightly Courtyard. Kids and adults can match pot sherds to study ancient Indigenous cultures and trade routes, create their own dinosaur imprint fossil to take home, and see how scientists mapped the geology of the Grand Canyon into the now infamous Grand Canyon Dragon Map! (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)
