McDowell Sonoran Conservancy: Phenology Educational Walk
Welcome! Join us for a guided adventure in the beautiful McDowell Sonoran Preserve. We have something for everyone. The Conservancy relies on the generosity of donors to support our conservation efforts in the Preserve. Your contributions help us mitigate invasive species, restore burned areas, and monitor wildlife to identify current and future threats. To participate, we suggest a minimum donation of $10 per person, but feel free to give what you feel is appropriate. Your donation directly supports the protection of the Preserve and is tax-deductible. Read below for important details and then sign up!
Description
This leisurely walk along the Gateway’s Bajada trail will introduce you to the Conservancy’s ongoing phenology project in the Preserve. Phenology is the science of studying life cycle events in plants and animals. When does it grow, when is it dormant, when does it reproduce? The data we collect on each year’s new leaves, flowers and fruit is vital information to help scientists better understand how changing climate conditions are affecting all living organisms worldwide.
Our walks are usually short (around one mile in length) and easy. They often explore the interpretive trails of the Preserve, which are very accessible and near the trailheads. Activities begin promptly at the start time, please arrive 15 minutes before the start to prepare and check-in.
