Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Welcome to the Sonoran Desert

Join Ranger Kevin for an invigorating morning hike and learn more about the amazing Sonoran Desert.

This introduction to the Sonoran Desert is perfect for residents and visitors alike. Join Ranger Kevin for a 3.5-mile hike on the Overton and Go John trails. Trails are rated moderate, so expect stretches of loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change. We’ll be talking about what makes our desert quite possibly the most biodiverse desert on Earth. We’ll also be stopping to observe various plants and animals along the way, and dive into the amazing adaptations these desert dwellers have developed that allow them to thrive here. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended, and you may find hiking poles useful. Restrooms and water are available near the Nature Center. NO pets, please.

MEETING LOCATION: Nature Center front entrance.

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list.   Registration for this program will close on 1/21/24.
