Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Scorpion Safari Hike
Come join Ranger Kevin as we hike roughly 2 miles on the Spur Cross and Metate trails. We will be looking for all three kinds of scorpion native to our neck of the Sonoran Desert: Striped-tail, Bark, and, of course, the Giant Desert Hairy. Who knows what else we may see? Trails are rated easy, with little loose rock, uneven terrain and a modest amount of elevation change. Be sure to wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, bring plenty of water, and a flashlight (UV/black light optional). Restrooms are available near the trailhead. Please no pets.
MEETING LOCATION: We’ll meet at the picnic tables adjacent to the restrooms at the Spur Cross Trailhead. Spur Cross Ranch Conservation area has an entry fee of $3 per person. Please bring cash and use a self-pay envelope as you enter the Park.
Limit 12 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending.
