Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Scorpion Safari

Join Ranger Kevin for an evening hike under the stars.

Join Ranger Kevin for an approximately 2.4-mile out-and-back hike on the Cottonwood Trail. We will be looking for all three species of scorpion native to our neck of the Sonoran Desert: Striped-tail, Bark, and Giant Desert Hairy. Who knows what else we may see? Trail is rated easy, with some loose rock and uneven terrain, and little elevation change. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, and bring plenty of water, and a flashlight. If you have a UV (black) light, feel free to bring it as well, but the Ranger will have one for spotting and highlighting scorpions. Restrooms are available at the trailhead. No pets, please.

MEETING LOCATION: Cottonwood Day Use Area
Limit 20 participants. To register, please email Ranger Kevin at Kevin.Thorson@maricopa.gov. Please include your name, phone number, and number of people.
