Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Scorpion Hike

Explore the desert in the dark with Ranger Derik and hunt for the scorpions and other critters that come out at night.
Join Ranger Derik on an evening scorpion hike and take in the beautiful views as the sun sets behind the White Tank Mountains. The hike will cover the Waddell Trail and a small section of the Ford Canyon Trail for a total of 3.5 miles. The trail can be uneven, rocky, and hilly in places and is rated as a moderate hike. It is encouraged that you wear good fitting and supportive shoes and, if you have difficulty on rough trails, trekking poles are a great idea. We will be spending a portion of the hike in the dark so make sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp with fresh batteries; blacklights will be provided for scorpion hunting. The trailhead has bathrooms but no water available so please make sure to fill up at home or at the Nature Center before the hike.
MEETING LOCATION: Waddell Trailhead Area 7
