Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Plants Hike

Walk the roughly 3-mile round trip Slate Trail and have a chat about some of the plants that grow along the way. We’ll discuss cacti for sure including the towering saguaro, the menacing cholla, delicious prickly pear, and the smaller statured hedgehog. Shrubs and herbs will also be starring in our show as creosotes, brittlebushes, desert lavender and more await us along the way. While they may not be blooming yet, we can figure out where to look later in the year for those lovely bursts of color from some of the wildflowers too perhaps. Water bottles and closed toed shoes required. Sunscreen and hat strongly recommended. No pets please but feel free to bring whatever hiking gear makes you feel comfortable.

MEETING LOCATION: Slate Trailhead
