Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Nature Hike – Butterflies & Blooms
Ranger Jacque will lead you on a hike to look for blooms, butterflies and other pollinators and plants! Color identification brochures provided. Discover how to document your findings on the citizen science app*, iNaturalist, and how your contributions help our local butterfly monitoring project as well as worldwide biodiversity projects. We will start with a short and easy 0.4 mile roundtrip out and back walk to the Wildlife Pond. Then, we will hike about a mile portion of the Mule Deer trail, rated moderate, before heading back, for a day total of 2.4 miles. Expect some uneven and rocky terrain, slight elevation change (100-140 feet), and remember to wear sturdy close-toed shoes, bring plenty of water, and dress for the weather. Bring a phone, camera, or notebook to log your observations (optional). Well-behaved dogs on leash OK. Restrooms are available at the trailhead staging area where we will meet. Allow time to find the trailhead, a few minutes drive past the entrance station. *If you would like to learn how to document via iNaturalist, please download the free app at home and register with a username prior to arrival.
