Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Introduction to Butterfly Monitoring

Butterflies can reveal important information about the health of local ecosystems.

In this hour-long program, learn about some of the major butterfly families found in the Sonoran Desert, which characteristics to look for when identifying butterflies, and various “citizen science” projects that allow observers to report their findings.

We will also discuss host plants (plants used as food by caterpillars), and which types can be planted to attract various butterfly species to your own backyard!

Meet at Nature Center.
