Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Halloween Scorpion Safari

Join Ranger Eric to search for scorpions for Halloween tonight!

To celebrate Halloween festivities, come along with Ranger Eric to look for scorpions and other nocturnal wildlife on this easy, family-friendly, accessible hike! We will go up the first 0.5-mile of Waterfall Trail up to the ‘petroglyph plaza’, which is paved and barrier-free with a slight slope, but is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Those that want to continue up the unpaved, rocky last 0.4-mile of trail up to the waterfall grotto are welcome to, but the ranger and volunteers will focus the walk on the lower stretch to accommodate those who are unable to travel up the harder part. We can also look for scorpions and other wildlife along the edge of the trailhead parking lot as time allows. Feel free to come dressed in your Halloween costumes, but closed-toed footwear is still recommended due to cacti and rocks along the trail edge. Please bring your own drinking water, flashlights, and blacklights if you have them, but Ranger Eric and volunteers will have blacklights to point out scorpions we see under the glow of the UV light. Restrooms are available at the Waterfall Trailhead.

**We will have two sessions of this program: 6:00-6:45pm and 7:00-7:45pm. Please sign up your party for just one session so we are able to accommodate as many people that want to go as possible.
