Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Fitness Hike
Join Ranger Nikki on a moderate terrain hike to get a workout and explore our desert for plants and animals. The halfway point of the loop is a great viewing spot for the Marcus Landslide, a granite avalanche that slid from McDowell Mountain approximately 500,000 years ago. The route makes a 9-mile loop using Pemberton and Tonto Tank Trails. The terrain is mostly flat and even but has some areas of slight elevation gain and rocky, uneven surfaces. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, a hat and sunscreen. Hiking poles are helpful for the distance. Restrooms and water are available at the Trailhead and at the Nature Center along the way.
MEETING LOCATION: Trailhead Staging on Shallmo Drive, south Pemberton access point.
Limit 15 participants. To register, please email Ranger Nikki at nikki.bunnell@maricopa.gov with your name, phone number and number of people attending.
