Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Discovery Station – Connect with Nature Through Your Phone

Drop by Ranger Shaun’s City Naturalist app Workshop to find out about some of the best apps on the market for identifying the plants and animals you see in the parks!

Headed up to waterfall? Maybe to petroglyph plaza? Swing by Ranger Shaun Naturalist App* Discovery Station to learn about some of the apps the Rangers use to help us identify plants and critters on the fly as well as help build a citizen science database that can be used by researchers to help understand biodiversity in our parks!

*Due to limited connectivity in parks, it is advised to download and register for the free iNaturalist app while on wi-fi before arriving at the park. Once you have the hang of using the app, we invite you to return as a park citizen scientist on April 26-29 for the City Nature Challenge, an international effort that encourages all citizens to find and document plants and wildlife on iNaturalist in cities across the globe. This bioblitz-style competition challenges local communities to make the most observations in nature during this 4-day period, and then this data is available for science, management, and conservation. So this April 26-29, connect with your open spaces, your community, and other global naturalist using only your phone or camera to record nature wherever you go!
