Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert 101 Hike
Ranger Nikki will point out a variety of plants, cacti, birds, lizards and more as you learn how these organisms adapt and survive in our extreme desert climate. We will also visit some of the tallest saguaros in the area so make sure your phone is fully charged to take photos. The route follows Spur Cross and Metate Trails to make a 2-mile loop. The terrain varies from smooth and level along the creek to uneven with small to medium rocks underfoot on the higher trail. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen, snacks and plenty of water. There is no water available at the park so be sure to bring plenty of your own. Portable restrooms are available at the trailhead.
