Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert 101 Hike

Join Ranger Nikki on an easy hike to learn about a variety of desert plant and animal life.
Join Ranger Nikki on a 2-mile hike to learn about our fascinating Sonoran Desert and how plants and animals survive, particularly during the summer. We will also visit Petroglyph Plaza on the Waterfall Trail and talk about the prehistoric people that created this fascinating rock art. The route uses Black Rock Loop and a short portion of Waterfall Trail. The terrain is mostly level but there are areas with uneven ground and small to medium rocks underfoot. Wear closed-toe shoes, sun-protective clothing and a hat and bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available at the trailhead.

MEETING LOCATION: Area 4, Black Rock Loop
