Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert 101 Hike

Join Ranger Derik on a morning walk through towering cacti and sandy washes on a short 2-mile hike to stay safe in our desert parks.  

Hike along sections of the Chainfruit and Lost Sheep Trails for 2 miles with Ranger Derik. Along the way you will learn about the many plants and animals that call the Sonoran Desert home. Its winter in the desert so make sure you have ample clothing and proper shoes. We won’t be out very long, but you should bring at least 1 liter of water with you and a small backpack for sunscreen your clothes and the water. We will meet for the hike at the front of the nature center and leave promptly at 9 AM. Water a fountains and bathrooms are available at the trailhead.

MEETING LOCATION: Nature Center

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 4. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 1/1/24.
