Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Desert 101 Hike

Join the Ranger for a short, easy hike to discover the uniqueness of the Sonoran Desert.

What makes a cactus a cactus? How can plants survive scorching temperatures? Can you eat Cactus? To get the answers to these questions and more…join Ranger Steve for a short (2.5 mile) hike along the easy terrain of the Pemberton Trail to examine numerous species of plants, shrubs, and cactus that call the Sonoran Desert home. While out, you may even get lucky and see some wildlife! This hike, while rated “easy,” does have some rocky and uneven sections, though mostly flat. Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Registration is required.

To register, please call the McDowell Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 3. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Visitor Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will end on 02/15/2023.
