Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Creatures of the Night hike

Come with Ranger Shaun and explore the desert in the dark!

We’ll be walking the moderate rated, approximately 1-mile Black Rock Loop. As the sun sets and the temperature begins to fall, we’ll talk about various desert plants and animals as and if we encounter them. The dark brings out some of the deserts more interesting critters as birds, bats, bugs, and more begin to creep out with the shadows. Closed toed shoes are required, as are water bottles. Flashlights recommended, blacklights encouraged. Bring along whatever else you need to feel comfortable hiking. No pets please. Restrooms and water will be available at the trailhead.

MEETING LOCATION: Black Rock Trailhead

Limit 10 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 5 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 09/04/2024

Please note: Summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The MC Parks website is the best resource for verifying the program’s current status, so please check the program listing prior to departing for your scheduled program.
