Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Climate Change in the Sonoran Desert
Join Ranger Kevin for a 2.8-mile morning hike on the Gila, Baseline, and Horseshoe trails. Trail segments are rated easy-moderate, so expect some loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change. We will be on the lookout for a variety of desert plants and animals while talking about the ways climate change and extreme weather events are affecting the local environment. We’ll also be looking at how this summer’s intense heat and delayed monsoon storms tie into larger trends and climate patterns. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended. Restrooms are available near the trailhead. No pets, please.
MEETING LOCATION: Gila Trailhead.
Limit 12 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 6 with your name, phone number and number of people attending.
