Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Advanced Fitness Hike

The hike is steep, strenuous, and rocky covering 10.5 miles and 1838ft of elevation gain over the entire route. This hike is geared towards people who have experience doing longer hikes in the valley. Hiking poles are highly encouraged and sturdy, above the ankle hiking boots. The trail has no shade and there is no water along the trail, so it is recommended you carry 4-5 liters of water and come to the hike pre-hydrated from the night before. Sunscreen, snacks (800- 1000 calories), electrolyte drink mix, broad brim hat, and sunglasses are strongly encouraged for this hike. Please check the weather the day prior to the hike and dress appropriately (average March temperatures are in the 80s). Light colored loose fitting long sleeves and long pants are great options and sun gloves to protect against sun burn. Water and bathrooms can be found at the Area 7 trailhead.

If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list.
