Maricopa Count Parks and Recreation: Guided Bird Walk
Join Ranger Eric for a guided walk along the Metate Trail to the Solar Oasis at Spur Cross to look for birds of the Sonoran Desert and riparian habitats. This weekend (Feb. 17-20) is the Great Backyard Bird Count sponsored by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, so we will be participating in community science while we observe birds! Along the way, we will discuss identification tips by sight and sound for birds, as well as their ecological roles. We will hike about 1 mile round-trip on an easy rated trail, with some occasional rocky or uneven surfaces. We will meet at the Spur Cross trailhead at the end of the road. Please dress in layers, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water and snacks.
*Note that this is 1 of 2 bird walks at different times this morning. To register, please email Ranger Eric at: eric.hough@maricopa.gov, specifying which time slot you are signing up for. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email back so those on the waiting list may be contacted.
