Wear a long-sleeved shirt\, pants\, and closed-toed shoes. This event includes hiking on natural trails. Participants must be 13 years or older to participate in these events. If you are 13-17\, you will need to be accompanied by an adult\, or you will need to be accompanied by a waiver and transportation provided by an adult. \nNote:  We reserve the right to cancel at least one day before. If canceled\, email notifications will go to the registrants. \nParticipants who attend four or more Desert Defenders will receive a Desert Defender neon yellow t-shirt and become part of our Desert Defender Community. DESCRIPTION:Learn about the wildflowers and plants of the Sonoran Desert on this hike with Ranger Eric.  \n\nJoin Ranger Eric on this guided hike to learn about the spring wildflowers and other plants of the Sonoran Desert. After the wet fall and early winter\, we should have an abundance of wildflowers this spring. We will hike maybe up to 2 miles or so up Bajada and Goat Camp Trails and will plan to turn around after about 2 hours to allow time for hiking back by noon. The lower part of the trails are easy to moderate\, but the grade turns to very difficult as we start to ascend higher up on Goat Camp Trail. Hiking will involve a mix of rocky\, sandy\, and uneven surfaces. Please bring your own water (at least 3L recommended) and snacks\, wear sturdy footwear and sun protection. Experience the community’s rich culture and history on our immersive tour of the Fort McDowell Yavapai reservation led by Clissene Lewis\, Director\, Fort McDowell Yavapai Cultural Center and Museum. \nOur 7th season begins on November 6\, 2025\, with something new. If you enjoyed last year’s tour\, be sure to sign up for a new experience. If you’ve never been on one of our tours\, you’re in for a treat. Enjoy your journey in the comfort of a comfortable touring bus and with a new environmental focus\, from a cultural perspective. \nClissene will share stories about the Verde River and its importance as a water source for current tribal agriculture and as a central source of much that has supported the Yavapai people. DESCRIPTION:Spend the morning outside to learn all about plants and have the chance to see the Spring Wildflowers of the Sonoran Desert during this guided hike with Ranger Olivia.  \n\n Enjoy a guided wildflower hike along some of our trails to possibly see Spring\nwildflowers. We will begin along the Palm Lake Loop trail\, connect onto Lion’s trail\, and then finish off on River Ramble for a total loop of about 2 miles. All trails are rated easy and are mostly flat with some uneven/sandy surfaces so please wear closed-toed shoes. Not all Desert Wildflowers are big and showy\, so we will be sure to walk at a slow pace to see what small flowers might be hiding closer to the ground.
