Leave No Trace: White Mountains Trail System Spotlight

Leave No Trace’s new Spotlight program is a multi-day event to bring attention to community conservation, spread education, and to build momentum and inspire involvement for the future.

The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Team will be at the White Mountains Trail System Spotlight June 2-3, collaborating with hosts and partners on a variety of programs including stewardship projects, workshops, and community outreach.

Opportunities to Get Involved:

FRIDAY, JUNE 2:

8:00 am – ongoing: Stewardship Project – Trail Work at the White Mountain Nature Center.  Join TRACKS, Leave No Trace, and partners for a fun volunteer opportunity, including work on building a short connector trail as part of the White Mountains Trails System and White Mountain Nature Center. No experience necessary. Advance registration for time slots is requested. Sign up here!

10:00 am – 2:30 pm: Science of Guinness World Records

1:00 pm: Disc Golf

2:00 pm: TRACKS Presentation – White Mountains Trail System

4:00 pm: Woodland Lake Cleanup

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 3: 

National Trails Day Celebration at the White Mountain Nature Center – Programs include:

8:00 am Leave No Trace in the Field – 7 Principle Activity Stations! Join USFS staff, Leave No Trace, and partners for fun and interactive Leave No Trace educational games and activities focused on the Leave No Trace 7 Principles.

1:00-4:00 pm: TRACKS, Leave No Trace, and a number of other agency and NGO partners in the community will have information booths set up for the public as part of National Trails Day outreach. Learn more about the White Mountains Trail System, how to protect it, and ways to get more involved!

1:00-1:30 pm Family Workshop – How to Protect Nature with Leave No Trace!  Join Leave No Trace educators at the White Mountain Nature Center for an interactive program filled with fun and learning. Together we’ll explore how we can enjoy the outdoors while doing our part to protect it.  Come learn how we can work together to enjoy, share, and care for our favorite outdoor places!

1:30-2:00 pm: TRACKS Equestrian & Pack Animals on the Trail – Presentation by Back Country Horsemen of the White Mountains

2:00 pm: Fire Wise Presentation

3:00 pm: Raptor Training Show

4:30 pm: TRACKS Potluck Dinner Celebration of National Trails Day
