Highlands Center for Natural History: John Muir Chautauqua – A Living History Performance

What is a Chautauqua? Chautauquans are scholars who portray historical characters.

This afternoon we have John Muir who will represent an environmental perspective in the West and will help bring to life the ideas that began during the nineteenth century in response to the wide-scale destruction of public lands by some of the early pioneers. The character of John Muir will make a 40-minute presentation, then take questions from the audience as the character, and then take questions as a scholar of John Muir. John Muir has been referred to as a naturalist, explorer, inventor, and philosopher.

Performed by Doug Hulmes.
