HeatSync Labs: Introduction to TIG Welding
Tungsten inert gas welding, or TIG welding, uses argon gas to cool and protect the weld puddle. You will learn how to grind the tungsten electrode, fit the pieces together for use, how to select settings, turn gas on and off and prepare the metal for welding. TIG is ideal for aluminum welding. MIG welding is a prerequisite for TIG welding certification class, and a successful weld must be made to pass the course. As with any metal shop class, long hair must be tied back, closed toed shoes are to be worn and personal protective equipment must be used. We have some gloves and helmets, but there are not very many, and they are not great quality. You may bring your own if you wish. We will be welding just outside the back door, and it will be cold, so dress accordingly.
