Flagstaff Festival of Science: Designed to Move – Seeds That Float, Fly or Hitchhike through the Desert Southwest
As the ethnobotanist Gary Paul Nabhan once observed, plants are nouns; seeds are verbs. Plants are rooted in place. Seeds are designed to move.
Their ingenious solutions to the challenges of dispersal have inspired innovations from Velcro to humidity-powered robots. Join Adelheid Fischer, curator of “Designed to Move,” for a presentation that celebrates the beauty of desert seeds while exploring their dispersal strategies as an exciting new source of inspiration for artists, designers and engineers.
