Embry – Riddle Aeronautical University: ROCKET PROPULSION ENGINEERING Summer Overnight Camp

The Mechanical Engineering Rocket Propulsion program summer program teaches students the principles of rocket and air-breathing propulsion. Students will participate in a range of classroom and hands-on learning activities exploring the aspect of propulsion system design, analysis, fabrication, and testing. Students will also learn about the history of air-breathing and rocket propulsion and where propulsion systems are headed and future prospects in the propulsion field.

This is a hands-on course. Students will be working with Embry-Riddle faculty in our engineering lab. You will learn the basic principles of propulsion – the thrust equation, conservation of mass, momentum and energy. Design and build a simple rocket from “off the shelf” parts. Then fly the rocket. Learn simple propellant chemistry and participate in mixing of solid propellant and casting it into grains. Static test fire solid rocket motors from the grains they cast. Learn about and participate in simple fabrication methods such as 3-D printing (rapid prototyping), water jet, laser cutter, and traditional machine tools.

Learn about and participate in simple laboratory and testing activities.

Summer Overnight Camps

Live on campus like Embry-Riddle students and explore career possibilities in flight, mechanical engineering, global security, or what it is like to be a NASA astronaut.

Embry-Riddle’s overnight summer programs at the Daytona Beach Campus and Prescott Campus introduce the technology of today to the aviators, engineers, and astronauts of tomorrow.

Students live in on-campus dormitories — under the supervision of approved counselors — and share their initial experience of University living with other young people near their age.

  • Audience: Teen
