Desert Botanical Garden: Life-Writing in the Garden
Wednesdays, October 9, 23; November 6, 20 (Series), 5:30-7:30 p.m.
This creative writing workshop series in an inspiring garden setting offers a place and time to explore aspects of life that seek a voice and expression in language. Class will start with practice exercises, followed by time for personal project development. These may include nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. Most of the class will focus on in-class writing, time for participants to volunteer to share their writing in class, and to discuss discoveries, new learning, and growth from writing.
Writing requires exposure to other writers. Class will also include reading from brief selections of published works: writings on nature (classics – Thoreau; contemporary – Annie Dillard); writing that is inspirational, healing, spiritual (Bailey, Goodenough); writers on writing (Pack & Parini, George Plimpton); writing that inspires participants (volunteered by participants).
Instructed by Martha Kent. Garden admission included. Ticket purchase includes all four classes in the series.
