City of Mesa: Scorpion Night Hike [#81781]
Our Scorpion walks are an opportunity to learn about native scorpions in their desert home. We will likely encounter several species of scorpion and have an opportunity to watch them exploring and hunting. Park Rangers will lead and assist with finding the scorpions.
The hike is for nature appreciation and education. We will be observing critters that will painfully sting humans if provoked or touched. No roughhousing or attempts to harm any wildlife including scorpions will be tolerated.
All ages are welcome at the event but we recommend participants be ages 4 and up to ensure that directions for safety will be followed. We will be in the desert for between 45 – 90 minutes depending on the energy of the group and our speed finding scorpions.
The Park Rangers will provide the following: a limited supply of UV (blacklight) flashlights to check out per family, scorpion identification resources, and a meetup site for the Ranger-led activity.
Please bring: sturdy shoes for dusty and uneven gravelly terrain, water bottles, and blacklights if you have them. Participants are welcome to bring their own regular flashlights and cell phone lights for the walk back to the parking lot after the event.
