Children’s Museum of Phoenix: Thing-a-ma-jigs

Construct a one-of-a-kind masterpiece in the Art Studio all month using recyclables plus a dash of imagination.

Did you know…?

Thing-a-ma-jigs develops skills that help your child get ready for school!

Math:

  • Developing geometry skills by organizing and building with materials of different shapes and sizes
  • Identifying principles of architecture and engineering while making a stable base for the Thing-a-ma-jigs
  • Learning spatial awareness and patterns while creating the structure
  • Understanding the importance of incorporating space and area while trying to create room for a particular material

Arts:

  • Designing develops creativity and problem-solving skills as children envision their Thing-a-ma-jigs and navigate design challenges

Science:

  • Experimenting with different materials involves the scientific method of experimenting, observing, and exploring cause and effect
  • Discussing how materials are recycled introduces earth science and can start a conversation about reducing, reusing, and recycling at home

Talking Stick Resort generously supports this project as part of School House Prep Month.
