SUMMARY:Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: City Nature Challenge Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join Ranger Nikki on an easy to moderate hike to use your phone to document biodiversity in the park for the City Nature Challenge global Citizen Science competition that runs April 24-27. \n\nThe City Nature Challenge is a global competition between cities to document biodiversity in regions around the world\, taking place this year April 24-27. This “contest” showcases citizen science\, where ordinary people can make extraordinary contributions to global research. This year\, we are excited to have our citizen science programs be part of Citizen Science Month 2026\, which is an official partner of America 250\, the campaign to celebrate the United States of America’s semiquincentennial anniversary. You can double your impact on the initiative of reaching 2.50 Million Acts of Science by reporting your iNaturalist observations to SciStarter\, an organization that connects people to citizen science projects\, citizen scientists and resources. Create an account on SciStarter.org\, an ASU research affiliate\, and add your iNat username to settings (under “Affiliation Integration”). Do this once\, and all your observations count! \nRanger Nikki will lead a hike with stops along the way to take phone photos of flowers\, trees\, cacti\, birds\, bugs\, fungi and more to boost the number of observations for Team Phoenix. The route is a maximum 3 miles out-and-back hike using Slate and Flume Trails. The terrain is mostly level but has a few areas that are rocky and uneven. You can prepare for this hike by downloading the free iNaturalist app at home on wi-fi and registering your account before you come to the park. You can join the Greater Phoenix Area team beforehand or Ranger Nikki can help you navigate the app during the hike. Wear closed-toe shoes\, sun-protective clothing and a hat. Bring snacks and plenty of water. Be sure to bring your phone fully charged to take photos. You can upload photos to the app later at home. Water and restrooms are available at the trailhead. \nFor more information  \nCity Nature Challenge: https://www.citynaturechallenge.org/ \nJoin the Greater Phoenix Area team: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2026-greater-phoenix-area \niNaturalist: https://www.inaturalist.org/ \nMEETING LOCATION: Slate Trailhead \nPrecise meeting location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/LZvYHVL2jzrttPZi7 \nNo registration required. \n\n  \n  \n  \nPart of Greater Phoenix City Nature Challenge 2026

SUMMARY:Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: City Nature Challenge Practice Hike
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the April 24-27 City Nature Challenge and free smartphone apps that can help you identify plants\, animals\, and more\, while helping contribute to science!  \n\nJoin Ranger Eric on a roughly 2-3 mile round trip hike on the Bajada and Goat Camp Trails while we learn about the free iNaturalist app you can use to identify any living organism on the planet with your smartphone\, while also increasing our knowledge of where they live. If you are wanting to participate in the April 24-27 Greater Phoenix City Nature Challenge\, we will have information to get you started too! This bioblitz-style competition challenges local communities to make the most observations of biodiversity in their area during this 4-day period using iNaturalist\, and then this data is available for science\, management\, and conservation. This particular City Nature Challenge will focus on the Phoenix Metro area\, including all of our Maricopa County Parks. For more info\, check out the following link: https://greaterphoenixcnc.com/ \n*If you would like to learn how to document nature observations via iNaturalist\, please download the free app at home and register an account prior to arrival\, as cell service can be spotty here. \nWe will hike 1-2 miles one-way on a moderate grade trail\, but start our way up a more difficult stretch of Goat Camp Trail as weather and participant interest allows. If the temperatures are getting hot that day\, we may limit the distance we travel. The Bajada Trail and lower stretch of Goat Camp Trail are easy to moderate grade\, with some rocky and uneven surfaces. Please wear sturdy footwear and sun protection\, and carry ample water\, electrolytes\, and snacks for yourself. Restrooms are available at the Area 2 Bajada Trailhead where we will meet. \nMEETING LOCATION: Area 2/Bajada Trailhead. \nExact location (Google Maps): https://maps.app.goo.gl/mrqopLjuRQLz52EZ9 \nPark map: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/white-tank-8×11-2024.pdf \nLimit 20 participants. To register\, please call the Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 5 with your name\, phone number\, and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered\, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 4/21. \nApril is Citizen Science Month! Citizen Science Month 2026 is an official partner of America 250\, the campaign to celebrate the United States of America’s semi-quincentennial anniversary. Help us reach 2.50 Million Acts of Science by reporting your iNaturalist observations to SciStarter! Create an account on SciStarter.org\, an ASU research affiliate\, and add your iNat username to settings (under “Affiliation Integration”)—do this once\, and all your observations count! SUMMARY:Maricopa County Parks and Recreation: Discovery Station - What is the City Nature Challenge?
DESCRIPTION:Stop by an information table where Ranger Derik will teach you how to use your phone to identify and document your nature findings to help the scientific community.  \n\nRanger Derik will host a drop-in information table to get you on your way to becoming a Citizen Scientist using the free iNaturalist app that identifies and documents nature photos that you take with your phone. Learn about flowers\, trees\, birds\, bugs and even fungi around you while creating a digital log of all the cool nature specimens you’ve seen on your adventures\, along with their locations and dates seen. At the same time\, you will create an online biodiversity record for the scientific community to use in studying populations\, occurrence ranges\, seasonal changes and more! Due to limited connectivity in parks\, it is advised to download the iNaturalist app while on wi-fi before arriving at the park. This information session can help you prepare for the annual City Nature Challenge\, where Team Phoenix will compete with cities around the world to upload on iNaturalist the greatest number of species from April 24-27. Wear closed-toe shoes\, a hat and sunscreen if you are hiking afterwards and bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available at the Discovery Center. \nPrecise Meeting Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/egZqVT9PxKpsKNqe6 \nNo registration required. \n\n  \nPart of Greater Phoenix City Nature Challenge 2026

SUMMARY:Arizona AI & Emerging Technology: Behavioral AI - What AI Reveals When It Enters Real Work
DESCRIPTION:This month\, our focus is on Behavioral AI. \nPRESENTATION OVERVIEW \nBehavioral AI: What AI Reveals When It Enters Real Work\nAs AI moves from experimentation into everyday operations\, its biggest impact often isn’t technical—it’s behavioral. In this session\, David Dean explores what becomes visible when intelligent systems enter real organizational workflows: how judgment shifts\, how responsibility blurs\, how risk gets distributed\, and how accountability quietly changes hands. \nThis meetup is designed as a short\, focused talk followed by a live reading + interview-style discussion drawn from David’s new independent book\, An Inbox Between Us. Rather than an “AI tools” or “adoption strategy” session\, this conversation names patterns many teams feel but rarely have language for—coordination breakdowns\, unclear ownership\, invisible decision policies\, and the subtle ways automation reshapes trust and governance. \nSpeaker:\nDavid Dean \nEvent Details: \n\nLocation: 1951@Skysong @ Scottsdale\, AZ\nTime: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM – talk will begin at 6:00pm (we get kicked out promptly at 7:30pm)\nFree Parking: Easily available (free)\nFood: Simple Pizza and Water
