SUMMARY:Children's Museum of Phoenix: Measure-a-Saurus!
DESCRIPTION:Step back in time for some dino-sized STEAM fun! \nIn this hands-on activity\, young paleontologists will explore the fascinating world of dinosaur facts and measurements\, comparing their own height\, stride\, and even “tooth size” to prehistoric giants. Using tools of measurement and simple math\, kids will practice estimation\, observation\, and data collection as they measure up to real-life dino dimensions. It’s a roaring good way to blend science\, math\, and imagination!

SUMMARY:The University of Arizona: Seize the Day-ta! Data Science to See Math in the Real World (IMPACTS-MS)
DESCRIPTION:Data literacy is a key 21st century skill for nearly every occupation and daily life. Students who are data literate must be able to read\, analyze\, and communicate with data\, but the reality is most middle and high schools don’t teach students these valuable skills. \nJoin us for this unique workshop to explore the role of data science in the middle grades\, to experience a data cycle\, and to improve the teaching and learning of mathematical content (SP) and scientific ideas. \nPresenters: Adam Gardner and Rodrigo Gutiérrez \nLocation: Hybrid: In-person at UArizona Tucson Campus. Remote via Zoom. \nEarn: Up to 6 hours of professional development credit for recertification.

SUMMARY:The University of Arizona: Digging Deep into Addition and Subtraction Grades (IMPACTS-Elem)
DESCRIPTION:Addition and subtraction are the foundation of elementary mathematics. These operations intentionally and systematically grow from work in Kindergarten through grade 3\, culminating in fluency with addition and subtraction in grade 4. How do we help students move along the path? What strategies will build the concept clearly and understandably? Come and explore the conceptual path and strategies to move students to deeper understanding of addition and subtraction. \nPresenters: Ellen Floyd and Agi Post \nLocation: Hybrid: In-person at UArizona Tucson Campus. Remote via Zoom. \nEarn: Up to 6 hours of professional development credit for recertification.
