SUMMARY:Highlands Center for Natural History: Summer Nature Camp
DESCRIPTION:This summer we celebrate 25 years of Nature Camp with a theme grounded in curiosity\, connection\, and discovery. Each week invites campers to explore the natural world through time: learning from the past\, engaging deeply with the present\, and imagining a future shaped by thoughtful care for the land. \nThrough time on the trail\, nature-based lessons\, and environmental science\, campers explore water\, plants\, animals\, and ecosystems while building confidence\, friendships\, and a true sense of belonging. Along the way they begin to see themselves as part of nature’s story\, growing into curious learners and wise caretakers of the land. \nWhether it’s a camper’s first summer or one of many\, this season honors 25 years of wonder while looking ahead to the generations of nature stewards still to come. \nJune 29 – July 2 \nAges 6 – 13 (8:00 am – 4:00 pm) \nMembers: $250\nNon-members: $300 \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Unity is the game engine trusted by developers. Nearly half of all console and PC games are made in Unity\, including chart-topping titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Fall Guys. \nAs a game programmer\, you’ll develop essential coding skills in Unity with C#. Write and integrate your own C# scripts to program and build a game. You’ll code core mechanics like player movement and item collection\, and design a level for your players to explore—from spelunking an ancient temple and diving across traps to unlocking a hidden treasure room! Refine your scripts\, then publish your game online to share with your friends. Launch your programming career here with Unity! \n  \nAges 13 – 17 \nJune 29 – July 3 \n

SUMMARY:Nerding: Advanced 3D Printing & Design with Blender
DESCRIPTION:Step up from TinkerCAD into professional 3D modeling with Blender\, the free\, industry-standard software used by real artists\, game designers\, and animators. Design characters\, objects\, and scenes\, and take home a 3D print of your creation. \nFor students ready to go beyond TinkerCAD\, this class introduces Blender\, the same free\, open-source 3D modeling software used by professional artists\, game developers\, and animators. Students learn to navigate 3D space\, model with meshes and vertices\, use path tools for organic shapes\, apply modifiers\, and understand concepts like topology and computational complexity. \nStudents who have maxed out TinkerCAD’s capabilities will find Blender opens up a whole new world of creative control with real curves\, precise vertex editing\, and professional-grade tools. Projects culminate in at least one 3D print you will take home\, while other designs will be more experimental and complex digital renders. \n  \nGrades 6 – 9 \nJune 29 – July 2

SUMMARY:Nerding: Drone Coding
DESCRIPTION:BEHAVIOR NOTE: This class is incredibly fun\, but drones are not chaos-powered toys. Students must stay calm\, follow directions immediately\, and treat the equipment\, instructors\, and each other with respect at all times. Unsafe\, reckless\, or overly silly behavior means a student will be grounded and will sit out of flying activities until they are ready to rejoin safely. \nCode it. Fly it. Land it. In this exciting hands-on drone class\, students will learn to pilot and program real codable drones through high-energy\, mission-based challenges. Using block-based coding\, they will control flight paths\, altitude\, speed\, turns\, and precision maneuvers while taking on scenarios inspired by real-world drone applications like search and rescue\, scientific exploration\, mapping\, and disaster response. \nAs students build their skills\, they will learn how coding and flight work together to solve problems\, complete objectives\, and improve accuracy. They will practice sequencing\, troubleshooting\, spatial awareness\, and control techniques while testing programs\, adjusting flight patterns\, and improving performance with each mission. Along the way\, they will discover tips and strategies for smoother takeoffs\, more precise landings\, better navigation\, and stronger mission planning. \nThis class is perfect for students who love technology\, robotics\, coding\, and hands-on challenges. By the end\, they will have a stronger understanding of drone operation\, block-based programming\, and real-world STEM applications\, along with the confidence to code\, fly\, and problem-solve like a drone pilot and engineer. \n  \nGrades 4 – 7 \nJune 29 – July 2

SUMMARY:Nerding: Minecraft - Build\, Design & Code
DESCRIPTION:Think like an architect\, build like an engineer\, and create like a game designer. In this advanced Minecraft class\, older students will work in a class-only private realm to explore how real-world architecture\, design\, and engineering come together inside the game. They will study architectural styles and famous structures\, then use those ideas to plan and build impressive creations of their own while learning how to make builds feel larger\, smarter\, and more realistic. \nStudents will practice advanced building techniques such as scale\, depth\, texture\, block palettes\, landscaping\, lighting\, and interior design\, along with tips and tricks that help builds look polished and professional. They will also explore redstone circuits\, automation\, hidden features\, and coding concepts that bring their worlds to life. As they design\, test\, and problem-solve\, students will build skills they can use in any Minecraft world\, from creating epic structures to engineering interactive systems with confidence and creativity. \nThis class is perfect for kids who already love Minecraft and are ready to take their skills to the next level through bigger ideas\, better techniques\, and more intentional building. \n  \nGrades 4 – 7 \nJune 29 – July 2
