SUMMARY:Nerding: Drone Coding
DESCRIPTION:BEHAVIOR NOTE: This class is incredibly fun\, but drones are not chaos-powered toys. Students must stay calm\, follow directions immediately\, and treat the equipment\, instructors\, and each other with respect at all times. Unsafe\, reckless\, or overly silly behavior means a student will be grounded and will sit out of flying activities until they are ready to rejoin safely. \nCode it. Fly it. Land it. In this exciting hands-on drone class\, students will learn to pilot and program real codable drones through high-energy\, mission-based challenges. Using block-based coding\, they will control flight paths\, altitude\, speed\, turns\, and precision maneuvers while taking on scenarios inspired by real-world drone applications like search and rescue\, scientific exploration\, mapping\, and disaster response. \nAs students build their skills\, they will learn how coding and flight work together to solve problems\, complete objectives\, and improve accuracy. They will practice sequencing\, troubleshooting\, spatial awareness\, and control techniques while testing programs\, adjusting flight patterns\, and improving performance with each mission. Along the way\, they will discover tips and strategies for smoother takeoffs\, more precise landings\, better navigation\, and stronger mission planning. \nThis class is perfect for students who love technology\, robotics\, coding\, and hands-on challenges. By the end\, they will have a stronger understanding of drone operation\, block-based programming\, and real-world STEM applications\, along with the confidence to code\, fly\, and problem-solve like a drone pilot and engineer. \n  \nGrades 4 – 7 \nJune 8 – June 12

SUMMARY:Nerding: Ai App Makers - Context Engineers
DESCRIPTION:Students learn what AI is\, how it works\, and how to use it effectively. The class frames AI as a superpower tool — something to wield skillfully\, not fear or blindly trust. \nStudents explore the full AI landscape including chatbots\, image generation\, music creation\, video\, AI agents\, and coding. They learn context engineering (the skill that replaced prompt engineering in 2026) through hands-on practice\, discovering that what information you give AI matters more than how you phrase the question. They compare different AI models side-by-side\, explore AI agents that take multi-step actions\, and discuss real-world impacts including jobs\, ethics\, recommendation algorithms\, deepfakes\, and privacy. \nThe class culminates in a two-part final project: (1) A presentation about what they learned\, and (2) a custom web app they designed\, built with AI assistance\, and deployed live. On Friday showcase day\, parents experience AI firsthand and watch their kids demo real\, working projects. \n  \nGrades 6 – 9 \nJune 8 – June 12

SUMMARY:Nerding: Kawaii Art Mart - Pop-Up Shop (Grades 4 - 7)
DESCRIPTION:This is a NEW CLASS\, so we are working on photos\, but your teacher\, Mrs. Warwick\, (art teacher extraordinaire) is in the photos. Just look at her! You know this class will be delightful! Oh\, and FYI:BOYS love this class too! \nInspired by the kawaii art movement and the Pop Mart blind box craze\, Kawaii Art Mart is a week-long creative adventure where students design\, craft\, and curate their own collection of cute trinkets\, wearables\, and collectibles. This version of the class is designed specifically for grades 4-7\, with age-appropriate techniques and challenges that keep older students creatively stretched and socially comfortable with their peers. \nThe centerpiece project is a DIY claw machine\, but for this age group\, it is a genuine mechanical build. Students engineer a working crank-and-pulley grabbing mechanism\, design the machine case\, wire up LED lighting\, and fill it with their handmade creations. Throughout the week\, they also create detailed clay figures\, layered shrinky dink keychains\, custom-pressed buttons\, beaded accessories\, hand-stamped shopping bags\, and decorated tote bags. \nThe entrepreneurship component goes further too. Students develop a brand identity for their shop\, create cohesive product lines\, set prices\, design signage and packaging\, and think about how to attract customers. On showcase day\, parents browse and “shop” at the students’ stores and try the claw machines. \nEvery project connects back to a real art form or design concept\, from Japanese kawaii culture and iconography to stamp-making\, printmaking\, and the fundamentals of running a small business. \n  \nGrades 4 – 7 \nJune 8 – 12
