Arizona State University: STEAMpunk Machines™ in Motion Summer Camp

Board your airships and jettison the ballast! Join in the fight to save a dystopian realm and create beautiful and imaginative kinetic sculptures that tell your hero’s tale. Immerse yourself in a world of gears, gadgets, and gizmos as you explore the exciting world of steampunk.

In this immersive week-long camp, participants in grades 8 – 12 will be introduced to the engineering design process while they learn and use basic science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) concepts to construct their own steampunk-themed automata. With expert instructors on hand to guide you every step of the way, you’ll experience hands-on learning and problem-solving like never before. Instructional content will focus on mechanical movement design, electric circuits, genre specific aesthetics, retro-futuristic storytelling, programming, and computational thinking.

The project-based approach will emphasize problem identification, brainstorming, problem solving, rapid prototyping, teamwork, and communication. The camp will culminate with an exposition of finished automata projects that student engineers can take home with them! Don’t miss this unforgettable opportunity to spark your imagination and unleash your inner inventor!
