Scottsdale Public Library: Great Waste Audit

April is a great month to mindfully help the planet and contribute to scientific research!

The library supports science every day by offering the community the chance to participate in scientific research through our Citizen Science programs, which let everyone contribute their findings to group research project.

The Great Waste Audit  is a wonderful opportunity to help Scottsdale stay sustainable because, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average American generates 4.51 pounds of waste per day. The way we handle this trash can have a big impact on the planet!

In this project, you will be asked to actually measure the amount of waste that your household generates in a day’s or a week’s time (identifying single-use plastic or not) and devise creative ways in which you can reduce, reuse and/or recycle to take an active role in helping the environment.  Click the link below to go to the Citizen Science home on our website and download your own Great Waste Audit sheet so that you can assess your trash and contribute to a national research project.

Citizen Science projects at the Scottsdale public Library are supported by a grant from the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

What else can you do to celebrate Earth Day? Check out the fun activities the City of Scottsdale has planned to celebrate Earth Day at Earth Day 2021 Events  and keep Scottsdale sustainable!
