Lowell Observatory: 24″ Dyer Telescope Premium Access

Experience the universe up-close with our state-of-the-art 24-inch Dyer Telescope.

This private, personalized expedition across the stars lasts 75 minutes and offers an exclusive opportunity to view the cosmos through Lowell Observatory’s newest telescope. Because of the sophistication and speed of the 24-inch Dyer Telescope, our specially trained educators can offer you an impressive number and variety of celestial objects for viewing and will customize the experience to your interests. *Weather permitting

Think of this Premium Access experience as a guided journey through the cosmos that allows you to choose your own destinations.* The 24-inch Dyer Telescope is a PlaneWave CDK24a, an f/6.5 Corrected Dall-Kirkham astrograph that offers an exceptionally sharp view of the sky. Although the Dyer Telescope is new, its dome used to house the 16-inch McAllister Telescope, a Boller & Chivens reflector that many returning guests will remember.

As a VIP guest, you will have private access to the Dyer Dome, which offers interior space for 2 socially distanced guests and one educator. Due to the smaller size of the Dyer Dome, there may be times when an educator will come within 6 feet of guests while observing. Face masks are required inside the dome, and guests who are not observing may step outside to the surrounding plaza in order to maintain social distancing. At the telescope, an educator will show you the best the night sky has to offer—planets, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, and more—and tell you about how stars evolve, what forms they take during their lifetimes, or how the rings of Saturn came to be. Outside of the telescope dome, your educator will use a high-powered laser to point out prominent stars and constellations while sharing epic tales of how the stars first formed.

To keep groups separate, please do not arrive more than 15 minutes in advance of your scheduled start time. Masks are required for viewing, and telescope eyepieces will be sanitized between use by staff and guests.
