Chandler Public Library: Seed Collecting & Saving

From the beginnings of human settlements, seed saving became necessary to transition from hunter gatherer to farming in settled communities.

To this day, gardeners save seeds from treasured family heirloom crops, the tastiest tomatoes, and garden workhorses: lettuce, radishes, cole crops, etc. Having a collection of your own seeds available for planting means less reliance on commercial sources and makes for greater understanding of how these plants we rely on to live actually grow. Collect and save a few or a lot, and you will become a more informed gardener with a treasure to share!
