after5 Tech Mixer: Tech Launch Arizona

Join AZTC and UA Tech Launch Arizona to learn what the organization does, get a report of TLA’s latest accomplishments, hear about upcoming plans, and engage in topic-focused commercialization conversations with knowledgeable TLA team members.

Doug Hockstad is TLA’s Assistant Vice President. TLA helps to accomplish the broader University of Arizona mission by providing a variety of services to faculty that protect intellectual property, streamline the technology commercialization process, support the creation of startups based on University technology, and find commercial applications for university research.

Doug joined the UA with 25 years’ of experience in high tech markets, primarily in the software market, including both established company and startup experience, and most recently having served as Associate Director, Software & Engineering Licensing in the University of Michigan’s Office of Technology Transfer. In this role, along with his primary responsibility for managing software and other copyright-related intellectual property created across the entire U of M campus, he also managed the office’s information technology requirements, and served as the liaison between the Office of Tech Transfer and the College of Engineering.

Agenda:

5:00-5:20pm  |  Doug Hockstad

5:20-5:30pm  |  Audience Q&A

5:30-6:00pm  |  Breakout Sessions – each focused on a different technology with a moderator:

  • Space Exploration and Optical Solutions: Ken Nyairo and Steve Wood
  • Improving Health: Kaitlyn Norman and Mitch Graffeo, with Marie Wesselhoft and/or Ken Wertman
  • Water, Environmental and Energy Solutions: Bob Sleeper and Tod McCauley
  • National Defense and Security Systems: John Geikler and/or Steve Wood
  • Software and Science Grab Bag: Lewis Humphreys AND Laura Silva, with Barry Glick

TLA will build upon the synergies among the faculty, administration, students and alumni of the University of Arizona, its tech parks, and the technology and business community to significantly enhance the impact of UA research, intellectual property (IP) and technological innovation.
