Dig Into Mining – The Story of Copper is an interactive educational program for students grades 6-12 that uncovers the use of metals such as copper in our everyday life, and provides students a deeper understanding of today’s hard rock mining industry.
In this activity, students research the antimicrobial properties of copper.
In this activity, students investigate the impact of mining on the environment.
In this activity, students will participate in a hands-on lab to help them visualize and understand the process of extracting copper from ore.
In this activity students will plan and carry out an investigation to separate out several items that were mixed together back to their original pure substances.
In this activity, students will analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world problems.
In this activity, students will investigate the distribution and patterns of natural mineral resources and draw conclusions about where copper bearing minerals are found around the world.
In this virtual simulation, students will explore the reclamation process to discover how land is restored for a sustainable future.
Bring students on a virtual tour of the ins and outs of electronic and hybrid vehicles to compare and contrast the amount of copper with a gas fuel vehicle.
Take students through a virtual learning simulation where they will navigate three stages of copper processing and meet mining experts who describe their roles in the operations phase of mining, and share information about the equipment and processes used in each stage.
Students will be transported into a mine site to explore the different careers, technology and equipment used during the copper extraction, processing and refinement phases of mining.
Take an interactive look into modern-day mining with this authentic learning simulation focused on the exploration phase of hard rock mining.
